Chair Massage – a type of massage administered while the client is clothed and seated in a specially designed chair.
Cranio-Sacral – a gentle touch method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of the central nervous systems using very light pressure; about 5 grams the weight of a nickel.
Deep Tissue – a manual manipulation that uses slow and specific strokes, either following or going transversely against muscle fibers, tendons and fascia.
Hot Stone – a massage technique, used in conjunction with other modalities, in which warmed stones are used as extensions of the massage therapist fingers to massage the body.
Prenatal Massage – massage for pregnant women. Aids in relaxation and focuses on the needs of the mother and baby. Can be done sideline or with a pregnancy table.
Reflexology – following maps of the body on the soles of the feet and/or palms of the hands, pressure is applied to certain areas to stimulate, or "reflex," to all areas of the body.
Shiatsu (also called acupressure) – a Japanese system of applying finger pressure to specific points that lie along specific meridians.
Swedish Massage – a massage system of long strokes, kneading and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of the muscles, combined with active and passive movements of the joints. The four strokes of Swedish massage are effleurage, petrissage, friction and tapotement.
